A recent survey amongst UK estate agency members aimed to find out which is the cheapest option when looking for a home: buying or renting. Conducted by Relocation Agent Network, of which Hunters is a member, the survey found that buying a house continues to be the cheaper option. Relocation Agent Network, the national network of selected estate agents asked its members whether it was cheaper to buy or rent a three-bedroom semi-detached house over the course of a 12 month period. 92% said that it was cheaper to buy. Bank of England Reduces Interest Rates

There shouldn’t really be any strong affect one way or another regarding the housing market since everyone knows there is a shortage of supply in housing with many families wanting to move. Estate agents predict a surge in sales ahead of stamp duty rise. MIDLAND estate agents are getting set for a busy start to 2016 – predicting a surge in Spring-time sales in the buy-to-let market ahead of changes to the levels of stamp duty. From April, buy-to-let landlords and people buying second homes will have to pay more in stamp duty; a 3% surcharge on each band. That means that for properties worth between £125,000 and £250,000, where the stamp duty is 2%, buy-to-let landlords will pay 5%. On 23rd October, members of staff at Hunters offices baked, sold and ate cakes and goodies in what has become an annual event to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.  A tremendous effort resulted in a fantastic amount of over £1,100 being raised for this worthy charity.  Some wonderful creations appeared on the day with Jo Egan from our Residential Lettings Department in Knowle winning the ‘Best Cake’ award. Following the installation of Knowle villages first public access defibrillator in 2013, outside Hunters busy Knowle High Street office, a further community defibrillator has been sited by the front doors of Arden Academy. 75% of people who have had a cardiac arrest can be saved if a defibrillator device is quickly available to deliver an electric shock which will restore the heart to its normal rhythm. For every minute that passes without defibrillation the chances of survival decrease by around 14%. Hunters Director completes London Marathon for Charity

David Hofton, Director at Hunters in Knowle, completed the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April 2015 in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity. David, who completed the run in 3 hours, 48 minutes and 22 seconds, said “The four months of training since the start of the year, the blisters and loss of toe nails all paid off on what was a great well organised day with fantastic support from the crowds”. Hunters raise £50,000 for Breakthrough

Hunters Managers enjoy team building on sailing weekend

Managers and directors enjoyed combined sail training and team building on the company’s annual sailing weekend in the West Country this month. Staff enjoyed a fast sail from Dartmouth to Salcombe, sailing at over 8 knots for long periods. Captain and crew enjoyed dinner and overnight stay in Salcombe, sailing back to Dartmouth over the rest of the weekend. Surveyors are finding more maintenance defects in homes In the Hunters Residential Survey Department we see a cross section of the housing market because we act for all the major UK lenders. In most areas prices are rising, (in some areas more than others) and this appears to be driven by shortage of supply and some of the Government incentives, including the Help to Buy Scheme. Over the last few years, we at Hunters have engaged in numerous events to raise money for our principle charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Events included climbing Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Pen-Y-Fan, cycling across the Midlands (dressed in pink) and holding bake-offs across the region.
